Welcome
to Dutchland Frozen Foods!
|
|
A warm ‘hello’ to you from all
of the folks at Dutchland Frozen Foods in Lester, Iowa. Dutchland
Frozen Foods has been producing mouth-watering frozen food products for
over 15 years.
The account begins on October 28, 1992 when Dutchland Frozen Foods
(then doing business as Wyhe’s Choice) of Lester, Iowa turned
out their first batch of dough. At the time the business founders,
Wayne and Jennie Van Wyhe and their son Pete and his wife Susan, had no
idea how successful their enterprise would eventually become. Today,
with over 30 employees; a modern 14,000 square foot production
facility, and the third generation working in the business, the Van
Wyhe’s are, ‘thankful to God that it has all turned
out.’

It All
Started in a Converted Bank Building
|
|
The business opened in a former bank building on
the main street of Lester, IA which the Van Wyhe family renovated. A
refrigerated truck trailer was added to the back of the building for
freezer storage.

New 9,000 Square Foot Production Facility Added July 2003
|
|
As the business continued to grow, the existing
production facility was taxed to its limit. In July of 2003, a major
9,000 square-foot addition was opened which provides room for
high-volume production equipment and cold storage, which can be
accessed by fork lifts.

As production continued to expand, an opportunity to purchase
a 2,400 Sq. Ft. addition became available. Construction began
shortly thereafter to connect the addition to the current plant, making
it accessible by forklifts.
This extra building capacity houses cold storage,
dry storage, and an office area for personnel. This additional floor space
brings our plant total to over 14,000 square feet, space which is required to
efficiently manage day-to-day plant operations.

New Company Logo Represents 'Generations of
Quality'
|
|
The company logo defines what Dutchland Frozen
Foods represents: 1) Dutch heritage, 2) third generation business and
3) products produced in the village of Lester, Iowa.
Wayne Van Wyhe’s parents immigrated to the United States from
Holland as did Jennie’s. Their Dutch heritage has brought to
Dutchland Frozen Foods characteristics critical for a successful frozen
food business: roots in a country world-famous for great tasting food
products, strong work ethic, and strict attention to quality and
cleanliness.
Dutchland Frozen Foods is a third-generation family business. Wayne Van
Wyhe and his son Pete are active in the day-to-day management of the
business. A number of Pete’s children are also active in
product production, sales and marketing, and accounting. Three
generations of Van Wyhes active in the business demonstrates their
long-term commitment to keeping the business growing and viable.
Finally, Dutchland Frozen Foods is located in America’s
heartland—in the northwest corner of Iowa in the village of
Lester. Lester is a rural community with a population of 200 people.
The folks from Northwest Iowa and Dutchland Frozen Foods specifically
are hard-working and are conscientious about the quality and
consistency of the food products they produce.
